# Create tool

> Create a project tool source file in the project source or a preview branch so project agents can call it; returns the tool source document.

`createTool(projectReference: String!, input: CreateToolInput!): ToolSource!`

Requires project.agents.write.

## Response

Returns [`ToolSource!`](https://veryfront.com/docs/cloud/graphql/types/toolsource). Open the type for its fields and nested types.
