# Get cache entry

> Read one cache entry.

`veryfront__get_cache_entry`

A missing or expired key returns found=false, not an error.

Requires project.cache.read.

## Access

No external-service connection is required. Use a Veryfront credential with access to the requested resources.

**Call type:** Read-only.

## Arguments

| Field | Type | Required | Description and constraints |
| - | - | - | - |
| `project_reference` | `string` | No | Project ID or slug; optional on a project-scoped connection |
| `key` | `string` | Yes | Cache key, 1 to 512 characters: letters, digits, underscore, colon, dot, hyphen and slash. No "." or ".." segments between slashes. Minimum length: `1`. Maximum length: `512`. |

## Example request

Send this JSON-RPC request through an initialized MCP client. Replace sample identifiers and values before calling the tool. See [MCP client setup](https://veryfront.com/docs/cloud/getting-started/connect-mcp.md).

```json title="request.json" theme={null}
{
  "jsonrpc": "2.0",
  "id": 1,
  "method": "tools/call",
  "params": {
    "name": "veryfront__get_cache_entry",
    "arguments": {
      "key": "example"
    }
  }
}
```

## Result

The published output shape is summarized below. Inspect both the MCP response content and `isError` when handling a call.

| Field | Type | Required | Description and constraints |
| - | - | - | - |
| `project_id` | `string` | Yes | Project that owns the cache. |
| `key` | `string` | Yes | Cache key. |
| `found` | `boolean` | Yes | Whether a live entry exists for the key. A miss is a result, not an error. |
| `value` | `string or null` | Yes | Stored value, always decompressed; null when found is false. |
| `expires_at` | `string or null` | Yes | RFC 3339 UTC time the entry expires, or null for a miss or for an entry written through the legacy no-expiry path (ttl=0). |
